Hot Girl Summer

Who a hotter B? Who got a lot of D?
Who poppin' like a P when he be hoppin' out the V? (Brr)
And who gon' tell him that my bitch is getting her degree?
And when we say it's Hot Girl Summer, we ain't talkin' 'bout degrees

— Megan Thee Stallion, Hot Girl Summer

Sometimes I joke that I'm in a "clutch" with my other transfem friends because most of us began transition around the same time. The truth is that we connected at support group because of our similar timelines, so it's self-selection bias. One of our running jokes has been that this summer was going to be our Hot Girl Summer, and honestly for me I think it's come true. Last summer I was only a few months into transition and didn't want to be perceived; I hid inside and ran a Minecraft server for friends while starting to learn about feminine gender expression and penning (SO MANY) coming out letters. This year I'm feeling more aligned with my emotions and my body, and so I'm spending most of my time with others out in the real world. Plus with Portland winters the way they are, and feeling the need to make up for lost time, I really want to make this summer COUNT.

Here's a sample of what I've been doing since the last blog post:

  • Organized picnics and tea times with friends
  • Attended trans and queer events in town, like lit readings and affinity jogs
  • Went to the Oregon Country Fair and danced around in giant, shimmery fairy wings (highly recommend, very gender affirming)
  • Blasted my eardrums out at a transfem indie rock show
  • Marched and partied at Portland Pride - my first Pride!!!
  • Went to the Barbie movie with friends - twice 💅

While summer of year 2 feels much more stable, I wouldn't want to give the impression that I have my shit entirely figured out. There's still a lot I'm learning about myself and personal work that I'm doing. Being out in public brings its own challenges, and I'm working on some writing that will dig into that more. But... I won't make any promises on how soon that gets posted as long as the sun is out. 😎
